Successes and a little sadness

Check out our Spring newsletter.

I think we skipped Spring and headed straight into Summer! While you enjoy a refreshing iced coffee, we would love to share some of our recent success stories with you.

Occupied owl boxes not only bring joy to homeowners and their families, but also to us in the office. There is nothing nicer than receiving a mail or message filled with exclamation marks and excitement as another EcoSolutions owl box becomes occupied! Unfortunately, this newsletter also shares a sad story which we believe is important to share with our owl box clients.

''Hello world!'' This Spotted Eagle owlet and his 2 siblings can't wait to explore the poison-free grounds of Kruinkloof Bushveld Estate in Boskruin.

Mrs Owl in Midstream Estate is keeping her owlet close by and tucked under her wings. The homeowners and their kids are thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Rowan in Duxbury shares wonderful footage of her beautiful owls! There are four owlets to care for - That's a busy mum. Click below to watch a clip of the owlets at dinner time.

The owl box gets a bit crowded as the owlets grow. These 3 owlets in Bryanston fledged from the box a few days ago. Click below to watch a captivating clip from Joanne.

EcoSolutions has over 150 occupied owl boxes in Gauteng. All of our boxes are serviced annually. This has been key to the success and growth of this wonderful initiative. During the service, we make sure that the box is structurally sound and secured.

Occasionally we receive upsetting news from our clients. Last week, an owl box fell out of the tree and sadly the owlet did not survive. Unfortunately, this was this pairs first attempt at breeding within this owl box. This box had not been serviced since 2020. We really believe that putting up a potential breeding site for owls is a commitment.

We encourage all of our members to appreciate the responsibility of maintaining and monitoring their owl box. We send out annual service notifications to all of our clients. This has been the reason the project has been so successful and, unfortunately, the lack of service in this case, resulted in this sad failure.

Please ensure that your owl box is serviced annually. If you haven't serviced your box for 2023, please click below.

Thank you to the Owl Box Project participants who have undertaken this year's service.

Kind regards,

Sara and the EcoSolutions Team
